Open Studio 2024 | Moving towards silence

On the weekend of 28 and 29 September 2024, I hope to meet you in Amsterdam. I will open my studio and show new work.

I have just returned from a lovely but full week’s holiday in Crete. One moment has especially stayed with me. Arriving in a mountain village from our stay in touristy Hersonissos, I stepped into a little chapel with my son where I unexpectedly experienced an all-encompassing silence and calm. I felt my body relax. Immediately I sank from my head into my body, which moved me. Together with my son I lit a candle there.

In my previous newsletter I wrote about a retreat this spring where I experienced something similar. I then perceived a shift from myself as a practical, autonomous individual trying to keep a grip on life from her head, to an all-embracing sense of unity, love and silence.

In my works, I want to evoke a related experience. I play with the elusiveness of light and movement in thin layers of sprayed paint on paper. The works are momentary shots in silence, like a still from an animated image. Each work is continuously slightly different but always precisely balanced. An image that calls for standing still.

During this weekend, I will be present myself, of course. I enjoy telling you about my work, so please ask if I don’t start talking automatically ;-).

To make my work more accessible to people with a smaller budget, I made the wall stickers OVERTURN in 2023/2024. These wall stickers are still for sale (45 euros/75 euros depending on size), so come and see them in real life!

You are welcome Saturday and Sunday between 1pm and 5pm.

NB. For those of you who would like to come and have a look at low-pressure, I will open my studio by appointment between 12:00 and 13:00. Please let me know if you are interested in that.
